(Please click picture to view in larger text) Think organically with the RC&D Council! Centrallized Power might be possible as a political devise and has worked up until today in our democratic and federated Republic. It has its detractors when applied to energy production. One detractor is former CIA Director, R. James Woolsey (1993-1995) who told the Florida Senate Energy Committee in 2009 that terrorists love large sized targets. He also said that “distributed energy systems” like FIT is the way to go while praising Gainesville, FL, for its innovations in SOLAR and BIOMASS. We agree.
The world’s energy usage could be filled entirely if 100% of all hydropower available were captured. That will never happen, of course. Applied to Biomass that relationship becomes 2,000%! Applied to Solar, the number is too big to print here. Applied to WIND that number is 20,000 %. You get the idea. In this slide in our Photo Gallery dealing with quantitative measures, it’s important to know what the standard definition for “TW.” A “TW” is a terawatt. One TW equals 1 million megawatts (MW). Electricity usage in a normal, well-insulated American home of 1200 sq. ft. is around 1 megawatt per month. A boiler producing 1 MW/hour or MWh will light anywhere from 600 to 800 homes. The problem with any of these Energies is storing it. BIOMASS is the best storage system we now have from renewable energy systems. New energy crop companies are coming and some are here. One is called Fast Growing Trees (Don Rockwood) and another is ArborGen (Jeff Wright). In the meantime, visit the Council farm to get some low-cost fire wood this winter! The number is 386-418-0381. And by the way, we fertilize our vegetabls with wood ash from Southern Fuelwood in Newberry (Pat Post).
